Dreadful disease Nipah Virus broke out in Kerala

Again, after a year Nipah fever broke out in Kerala. Almost 17 people died in Kerala last year. The health authorities in Kerala are taking all the necessary steps to protect people from this disease. However, the virus last time broke out in small rural areas of Kozhikode and Malappuram. But, this year it broke out in the commercial area Ernakulam.

The students who are suffering out of this disease were hospitalized with high fever in Kochi 10 days back. Health Minister K.K. Shylaja informed the reporters after meeting in Kalamassery Medical College that they are waiting for the final result by Pune-based virology institute.

The government of Kerala has set up isolation wards at the medical college in three districts. The patience movements have been traced in Ernakulam, Kozhikode, and Thrissur.

Minister said that the public should not worry because the here is no confirmation of the Nipah virus till now. On the other hand, the government is taking all the necessary steps to protect people from this disease.

Health Minister Shylaja said that around 86 people are kept under the surveillance at their place that came in contact with the patients. The government has provided with isolation wards which include several facilities like ventilators.

This virus spreads from human to human. In 2018 for the first time, this virus has appeared with the mortality rate of 70% in the state. There is no vaccine to prevent it.

The health department has arranged an emergency meeting in Kochi. This time the experts who have helped to tackle the disease last year in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts and include the former principle health secretary Rajeev Sadanandan to look after this matter this year.

Rajeev Sadanandan said that ambulances are ready if anyone under house quarantine is found with any symptoms then they will be taken to the hospitals immediately.

A team of experts from the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital, in a meeting, said that it was decided that until the disease is completely under control. Experts from the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE) will continue to help them.
