Arthur Melo fails to report to FC Barcelona as he has no interest in returning from Brazil. The midfielder has been warned by the club about his violation of the existing contract but he still

refused to return and play for Quique Setien’s team again.

The 23-year-old Brazil international is under contract with Barcelona until the Champion League campaign is over. In the meantime, he is in talks with Juventus since June about joining them this summer and already acquired a deal of worth €72 million (£66m/$81m) plus up to €10m in bonuses.

After their coach Quique Setien allowed them to have a break after their wonderful performance at La Liga, the young midfielder of the runner up club returned to his homeland to enjoy the break.

When he was supposed to come back this week for his COVID-19 test and getting started on the second leg of the last-16 against Napoli on August 8, he made it very clear to the club that he will not be returning.

Despite Barca’s warning of him violating his contract and facing huge fines, Arthur refused to change his mind.

In 2018 Arthur switched from Gremio to Camp Nou for a €40 million (£35m/$47m) deal. In 2019-20 season he had played in 28 games and made a total of 72 appearances in all competitions.

In the current season, his injury caused him limited playing time and eventually, he was dropped completely. The last he played was for only four minutes against Celta Vigo in late June.

When Barca announced their agreement with Juventus two days after that match, Arthur pledged to give his all to the club for the rest of the season on his social media.

As Barcelona is already lacking Sergio Busquets and Arturo Vidal for the match against Napoli due to suspension, now Arthur’s absence is going to be hard for coach Setien.

With Arthur moving to Juventus, Bosnia-Herzegovina international midfielder Miralem Pjanic will be switching to Barcelona in a €60m (£55m/$67m) swap deal between the two clubs.
