Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Sign Their Production Deal With Netflix

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have headed to Netflix too. After six months of detangling their work lives from the British family, Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle have reportedly signed a multiyear deal to produce nature series, documentaries, and children’s programming for the streamer, according to a statement released on Wednesday.

The pair who has recently relocated to Santa Barbara, California now plans to focus on stories and issues that elevate diverse voices and also other issues close to their hearts. There are several projects which are already in stages of development, including a nature docu-series and a series that is focused on women who inspire.

As a joint statement, the pair said that their individual lives, in which both of them are independent of each other and also as a couple has allowed them both to understand the power of human spirit, courage, resilience, and the need for connection. Through their work with diverse communities and their environments, they intend to shine a light on people and causes around the world. Their focus shall be on creating content that informs but also gives hope to people.

Moreover, the couple has also pledged to promote diversity behind the camera as their production company gets off the ground as well. Meghan has declared her plans of not returning to acting. However, she has done some voice work since the couple left the U.K. with baby Archie in search of their financial independence.

As per reports, the Prince has worked closely with the filmmakers of the documentary Rising Phoenix, in which he has made an appearance. The documentary was premiered last week on Netflix.

In a statement, the Co-CEO and Chief Content Officer for Netflix, Ted Sarandos said that the decamped royals have inspired millions of people all around the world with their optimism, authenticity, and leadership.

He also said that the company is proud that they have made Netflix their creative home and looks forward to telling stories with them that can thereby help build resilience and also increase the understanding for audiences everywhere.

Recently, Netflix has also aired its award-winning series The Crown, following the reign of Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. The news of the Sussex production deal comes after Netflix teased the fourth season of the popular drama which is scheduled for release on November 15.

The new season picks up in the late 1970s starring Emma Corrin who plays the role of Harry’s mother, Princess Diana.
