As the impact of the corona virus continues to tighten its grip on the country, the Canadians who celebrate Christmas are now getting ready for a holiday unlike any other year in their living memory. The situation has compelled everyone and every tradition to adjust.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has recently acknowledged the difficult year that the Canadians have been through in a Christmas message that he shared virtually on Thursday and has said that now is the time to continue offering compassion to those who are struggling in these difficult times.

He said that at this time of the year, it is supposed to be light and joy but this Christmas is certainly different. The families are getting together for big dinners and friends aren’t stopping by for cookies and eggnog. It’s certainly not the kind of season anyone ever wanted. But the thing is that even though this year’s Christmas traditions shall be different, people can and should give thanks for everything that unites them, he added.

Trudeau further said that this holiday is a time to recognize all of the good that they have in their lives. He continued to say that it’s a time to celebrate Christ’s message of compassion and show people that they love each other. This message has never been this important. They can now all agree that the year 2020 has been a rough year and added that all the Canadians have made sacrifices to try to keep the virus at bay.

This is the year when everyone has done their part because that’s what unity is all about and that’s what Christmas and Canada are all about.

As per the reports, more than half a million Canadians have been so far infected with the corona virus and nearly fifteen thousand have died from the virus. The experts have further warned that those numbers could see a steady spike if the Canadians choose to ignore the public health rules and have gatherings with those who reside outside their households over the holidays.

Earlier in the week, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam had warned that the country remains on track for a resurgence of the virus over the coming two months and the stressed Canadians need to keep following the public health guidelines.

The Public Health Agency of Canada has predicted at the current rates that the country could now see 12,000 to 14000 new daily cases by January, adding to what already is the explosive growth rate of the virus.

Trudeau has further stated that he hopes that the Canadians will use technology to stay connected with their loved ones over the holidays and that the end of the pandemic is now in sight.

He gave hope saying that this crisis shall end soon and as a country, they will come out of it much stronger and more united.
