In a shocking incident, 23 people have died in Norway after taking the shots of the Pfizer and BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine due to side effects. A group of elderly people was given the vaccine and 23 of them died in a very short time after that. Many had to be hospitalized after they experienced severe illness after the shots.

Keeping the incident in mind, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health issued a warning that elderly people, especially the ones above the age of 80 should not be given the vaccine. They also said that people with a short life span may not benefit from the vaccine and this may affect them severely causing serious side effects.

After the deaths of the 23 elderly volunteers very soon after they received the shots of the vaccine, the doctors in Norway were ordered to examine every elderly patient thoroughly who is to receive the vaccine made by Pfizer and BioNTech.

The medical director of the Norwegian Medicines Agency (NOMA), Steinar Madsen said that it could be purely coincident but they are not completely sure. He also clarified that there is no ‘certain connection between these deaths and the vaccine.’

NOMA has been conducting an investigation on the deaths. So far they have looked upon 13 deaths. According to their report, the deaths could have been prompted by the common side effects of mRNA vaccines, such as nausea, diarrhea, and fever.

Madsen said that these reactions are quite common and are not dangerous for younger patients. The vaccine may have amplified the underlying disease in the elderly. He also said that they are not concerned about the matter. Because the patients that died were very frail and already had very serious diseases in the first place. He further revealed that they are not pausing the vaccination process. They have ordered the doctors to take extra precautions while evaluating the very sick patients, who are suffering from other underlying conditions.

Norway has given more than 20,000 vaccine doses over the past few weeks. More than 400 people have to die normally in the care home residents each week.

The Paul Ehrlich Institute in Germany has also conducted an investigation after 10 people died among the 19 who were vaccinated.

The Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine has also being administrated in the UK. The UK’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency said that they will be publishing a detailed report on the deaths associated with the COVID-19 vaccine very soon.

Pfizer said in a statement that they are working with NOMA to investigate the matter. They have also expressed grief for the families of the dead.
