After Being Accused Of Using Expired Ingredients Starbucks In China Shuts Two Outlets Right Away


        

 

 

The famous US coffee chain Starbuck shuts down two outlets in china, as the company was accused of using expired ingredients and violating food safety rules.

An investigation is being conducted about this, by China. The Beijing News newspaper was the first to inform the news. And they described the news as an undercover investigation.

The Eastern Chinese city of Wuxi is a town where this incident was reported. A Starbucks spokesperson said, ‘we take what was reported by local media seriously, and have immediately closed the two stores in question to conduct a thorough investigation’.

He further added that ‘Since entering the Chinese mainland market 22 years ago, we have been committed to implementing strict food safety standards and adopting a ‘zero-tolerance policy towards foods safety issues. We welcome the continued supervision of members of the media and the public.’

The company didn’t mention any specifics about the report.

Chinese consumers and media addressed this incident with an aggressive accent. And they are keen to protect customer rights after this behavior of brands like Starbucks.

Before this incident Canada Goose a Canadian Winter wear brand was reported complaints about their refund policies. Not only had the overseas companies faced this. Some Chinese companies like milk tea chain Nayuki have also faced this before.

Outside of the United States, Starbucks has the largest market in China with 5360 outlets.

The Beijing News mentioned one of the stores of Starbucks used expired matcha liquid to make the lattes. And the other store put up stale pastries on sale while they were meant to be discarded.

Right after the incident was reported it was trending on Weibo social media site. This site is quite similar to Twitter, with over 50 million views. Each of them expressed disappointment and worries about this report.
