Elon Musk is not only known for his contributions in the technological space but also for industries vital to humanity. The CEO of both the Space Company SpaceX and auto manufacturing company Tesla as well as the founder of The Boring Company, co-founder of OpenAI and Neuralink faced some criticism when he announced that he was considering leaving his job for becoming an influencer.

Famous for his ‘cruise’ and active interactions with his followers, and due to his extroverted nature, he has raised regulatory and corporate governance questions and has drawn public attention with his controversial postulations.

After the emergence of Neuralink in 2016, Elon promised that the technology“will enable someone with paralysis to use a smartphone with their mind faster than someone using thumbs.”At present, the company is looking for a clinical trial director. Reports suggest that this is a hint of the company’s longstanding objective of implantation of chips in the human brain.

The success of The Silicon Valley Company in implanting the brain chips has further paved the way for Neuralink to conduct its trials on humans.

The position of the clinical trial director of Neuralink will be responsible for overseeing the company’s long-promised human trials of its medical device. The position, which is based in Fremont, California, will have the applicant “work closely with some of the most innovative doctors and top engineers” as well as with “Neuralink’s first Clinical Trial participants.” The job is going to involve leading and building “the team responsible for enabling Neuralink’s clinical research activities.”

The device makers must also pass the FDA (Food and Drug Administration approval) for their first-in-human test. The first test to be performed will be the feasibility test. The submission, review, and approval process with the FDA will depend on the results of the feasibility test. There is no clear evidence of where Neuralink and FDA stand in the process as all comments were left unanswered.

Elon Musk revealed in the last month while having a chat with a popular news source, that Neuralink hopes that the implant of the chips in the human brain will take place in 2022. Musk said,“We hope to have this in our first humans, which will be people that have severe spinal cord injuries like tetraplegics, quadriplegics, next year, pending FDA approval.”

He added,“I think we have a chance with Neuralink to restore full-body functionality to someone who has a spinal cord injury. Neuralink’s working well in monkeys, and we’re actually doing just a lot of testing and just confirming that it’s very safe and reliable and the Neuralink device can be removed safely.”

Elon also disclosed the device that would be “implanted flush with skull & charges wirelessly, so you look and feel totally normal”. He went on to state that people should think of the technology as similar to “replacing faulty/missing neurons with circuits. Progress will accelerate when we have devices in humans next year”.
