Independent Games Festival brings the names of the winners with the Grand Prize

This year GDC has gone online followed by the Independent Games Festival, or IGF, instead of holding off the festival. Now Independent Games Festival Names Winners, Including A Short Hike Receiving The Grand Prize.

They have made a wide range of categories of games to get the nominations from such as Excellence in Design, Excellence in Audio, and Excellence in Narrative and many more. Adam Robinson-Yu’s A Short Hike won the grand prize in the Independent Games Festival.

A Short Hike has won the best indie game of the year taking away the Seumas McNally Grand Prize from other participants. The developers of the game bring home a huge amount of $10000 and respect for winning the title. Though it is not the only thing that Robinson-Yu’s title has received. The fans of A Short Hike get the Audience Award, with $2,000 monetary value.

The second award for the Excellence in Visual Art award is given away to Foam Sword’s Knights and Bikes for its beautiful hand-painted graphics and unique visual style. Danish development studio Die Gute Fabrik’s Mutazioneis awarded the Excellence in Audio for their outstanding audio work. They posted a video on twitter with the names of the prize holders.

Patrick Traynor’s Patrick’s Parabox takes home the prize for Excellence in Design. His team created an innovative design that puzzled gamers through the manipulation of space. Excellence in Narrative award is given to Inkle’s Heaven’s Vault. It is an archaeological science-fiction game that allows the players to discover reality with enigmatic conversations and puzzles.

Christoph Frey’s The Space Between is honored with the Nuovo Award, for its foreseen nature and the zeal to go beyond common possibilities that force the players to play the game in a new notion. The title itself suggests its dreamy onset that creates an ambiguous reality and truths.

On the other hand, Goblin Rage’s Bore Dome takes home the prestigious award for the Best Student Game. Bore Dome got the prize for its dynamic mechanics of their first-person exploration title that gives a whole new human experience.

Each of the prizes is valued $2000 that is given to independent game developers at the festival. With the success if this award festival, the popularity of these independent titles is quite easy to see. Games like Minecraft and Undertale started their journey as independent titles and broached into epic brands.
