The popular Tata Group TajSats, India’s largest flight caterer will venture into non-aviation space because of the Covid situation. They are going to start home delivery of meals, as there is a sharp decline in air travel and there has been a continued suspension of international flights that are scheduled. Since February, all flight caterers have been badly hit as there have been travel restrictions imposed by Covid as it started to kick in all across the globe that also included India. The global air-traffic is scheduled to return to pre-covid levels by the year 2024-25. The global hotel chains have already started home delivery meals fro0m their restaurants in India.

Manish Gupta, the CEO of TajSats has told media outlets that they have got a very aggressive growth plan as the portfolio can be diversified and expanded into catering for non-aviation. A new brand named Anuka is launched by TajSats that is a multi-cuisine virtual restaurant and it is very much available on the Qmin App in Delhi and Mumbai. It is the food delivery app of the Taj hotels.

Asa, a new brand for chocolates and sweets are also launched by TajSats that is available all through the year on eCommerce platforms for retail sales as well as other institutional sales. The CEO also added that the focus of the company will be on food safety and also hygiene has seen a great increase because of the shift in consumer behavior as their only wish is to consume foods from trusted brands in the pandemic.

A similar downturn is faced by all the caterers in terms of fortune as feedbacks and comments are sought from the consumers.

The resumption of selling onboard and serving of meals was allowed in domestic flights in August end. At that moment, hot meals were allowed to be served by Indian Airlines on international flights, and that alcohol was also served. But the meal sale of domestic flights is yet to pick up.

According to a senior airline, official people are back top flying again and they keep their masks on short flights. They only used to take them off while eating but on medium to long international flights, the meal business is very low.

In the times of pre-pandemic, the 40-year-old TajSats has catered to over 3.7 lakhs flights every year. It has served more than 2.3 crore meals every year and that amounts to 65,000 meals daily that are served on-board.

Gupta spoke about the business in the post-cxovi9d world and said that there has been a sharp decrease in the numbers as the meals are not served in airlines for the first six months that followed the lockdown.

There has been a resumption of meals on-board from September but there have been many restrictions like serving various cold meals on domestic flights and also pre-plated meals to the passengers of business class.
