Safety Measures Are Tightened In Singapore Amid A Surge In The Covid-19 Cases

On Friday, Singapore has tightened restrictions on public activities and group gatherings after a spike in Covid-19 community cases.

The present size of the group gatherings that are allowed has been reduced to two people from five people from this Sunday, according to Lawrence Wong who is the Education Minister.

The move came right after reports have emerged that more and more Covid cases have been linked to the Changi Airport, hospitals, and schools.

Currently, there are 46 cases in the Changi Airport cluster making it the largest cluster among the 11 active clusters in Singapore.

This and other measures have also been labeled as ‘Phase 2 (Heightened Alert)’ and it is going to remain in place until 13th June.

Wong has been speaking at a press conference of the multi-ministry task force and it is going to apply across the board and only two persons will be allowed to go out.

He was responding to a question on whether Singapore is going to enter another circuit breaker period after the review that has been held at the mid-point. Wong said that if the situation does not improve they are not going to rule out other stringent measures.

The Ministry of Health of the Singapore government was speaking in a different press release also added that individuals should continue to limit the overall number of social gatherings and it should not be more than two per day.
