The Prime Minister Has Assured All Possible Help To Assam After The State Is Hit By An Earthquake

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured all possible help from the Central government to Assam that is hit by an earthquake. He also took stock of the situation twice a day.

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, and Nirmala Sitharaman, the finance minister were the two members of the central cabinet who spoke to Sarbananda Sonowal, the chief minister of Assam, and assured them of all the possible help to the state after it was hit by a quake on Wednesday morning.

The magnitude of the earthquake on the Richter scale was 6.4 and it was followed by quite a several aftershocks that hit the state this morning. This has caused widespread damage in the Northeast state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke about the entire issue and assured help to the state on Twitter.

The chief minister of Assam also went on a visit near the epicenter site at the Dhekiajuli in the Sontipur district.

Shah also had a word with Sonowal and assured the fact that the Central government is standing firmly behind all the people in the state.

The home minister has tweeted that the central government will stand firmly by the brothers and sisters of Assam. He has also prayed for everyone’s safety through his tweet.

The union finance minister has also assured of possible support to the quake-hit state of Assam through her tweet.

Jitender Singh, the Union Minister for the Development of the North Eastern Region has also assured the Chief Minister of all possible assistance that will come from the Central Government.

BL Santosh, the BJP General Secretary also had a word with the Chief Minister and apprised him about all the damages that have been caused due to the earthquake.

At this moment, no immediate deaths were reported but there has been news that three people were injured as the first quake of 6.4 has struck Dhekiajuli located near Tezpur. It is the headquarter of the Sontipur district. The quake happened in Assam at about 7.51 am and there was a series of aftershocks that followed it.

The impact of the quake is felt in the entire Northeastern region and also in various parts of West Bengal. The tremors were also felt in neighboring countries like Bangladesh and Bhutan.

The first quake was followed by lesser intensity quakes in quick succession and the magnitude of the tremors were 4.7, 4, and 3.6. The tremors were recorded at 8.03 am, 8.13 am and 8.25 am and also at 8.44 am. Sanjay O’neil Shaw, the Deputy Director of the Regional Meteorological Department has said.

There was another earthquake that hit the Nagaon district at 10.05 am with a 3.2 magnitude. Later on, the state recorded another jolt at Tezpur at 10.39 am with a magnitude of 3.4.

There was an eighth tremor that hit Marigaon with a magnitude of 2.9 at 12.32 pm.
