Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc are pounding in on the fifth day of the Brisbane test as both of them were bowling 150 kph of thunderbolts. The Indian batsmen were targeted by the Aussie pacers and Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman gill were at the crease as they are peppered with fiery short-pitch stuff.

The batting warrior Pujara is bruised and hit by the fast bowlers 11times. First, he was hit on the helmet by Cummins and a few minutes later his helmet was hit with a bouncer and it caused the neck protector to fly out of the groove.

A moment came in the game when it appeared as the breaking point. Pujara was in agonizing pain as a delivery from Josh Hazlewood smashed on his right glove. He was in such pain that he threw the bat on the ground and crashed on to the ground by removing his glove and helmet. All the spectators who were watching thought that he is going to retire but he did not leave the battle and soldiered on for India’s cause.

Gill was playing all at ease at the other end and he was also peppered with incessant short bowling. He took the bowlers to the cleaners and took 20 runs of a single over from Starc as he came out with some great cutting, hooking, pulling, and punched off the backfoot with utmost elegance.

Gill debuted in MCG in the second test and he was heaped with praises from all corners for his backfoot game. He came up with his signature shot, the backfoot punch as he appears to have got the extra split second of time that allows him to quickly judging the length of the ball and it makes the foot movement very decisive. His range of shots comes from the jab pull to the uppercut as the batsman possess the skills all the square-of-the-wicket shot that is there in the batting dictionary.

Shubman has got a tremendous backfoot game.

The credit goes to his father Lakhindwer Singh who is not a professional cricketer but his cricketing nous is better than any top coach. Lakhindwer had aspirations to play for Punjab but his dreams were nipped in the bud by lack of opportunities.

He was the first coach of Shubman as his father told that Shubman was interested in sports from his childhood. As a kid, he used to play with a plastic bat and he decided to train him when he saw the interest in his kid.

The Gills belong to a village called Chak Khere Wala which is a small village in the Fazlika district of Punjab. Lakhindwar took some bold decisions to ensure that the cricketing mettle of his son does not meet the same fate. Shubman enrolled at the prestigious MCA as a strict vigil is maintained by his father to improve his skills.
