During the post-match presentation, Murali Karthik has introduced Ishan Kishan as the ‘Man from Jharkhand’. India has comprehensively beaten England on Sunday in Ahmadabad by a margin of 7-wickets. The former Indian spin bowler was right as Ishan has played most of his age-group cricket in Jharkhand.

Kishan belongs to Patna but he was unable to play for Bihar as the Bihar team was barred from playing Ranji Trophy. However, the comment made by Murali Karthik was not at all accepted by people celebrating outside the residence of Ishan Kishan in Patna on Ambedkar Path.

Pramod Kumar Pandey, father of Ishan Kishan spoke to media outlets and said that people in the society are very upset when he was introduced as a cricketer from Jharkhand.

The 56-run knock by Ishan came off just 36 balls and it created quite a sensation. Even the Indian skipper Virat Kohli was in awe. Kohli said that it was a fearless inning but it was not at all reckless as he praised the southpaw.

The journey of Kishan started 17 years ago as he accompanied his elder brother Raj Kishan and joined the Bihar Cricket Academy in Patna at the Moin-ul Haq Cricket Stadium. The head coach was Uttam Majumdar who rejected the cricketer because of his young age. Raj insisted the coach allow him a few balls to play otherwise the boy would start crying.

Majumdar went on to say that he was very small and there was no pad of his size. A couple of balls were thrown at him by Majumdar and young Kishan smashed all those deliveries with a straight bat. Majumdar further added that he thanked God for giving him the chance to coach the young prodigy.

When Pramod came on a scooter to pick his son in the evening, Majumdar asked him to find a proper kit for the son. He also said that his son is gifted and he is very much sure that he is going to play on the Indian side. When this was told, his father thought that he was joking. But it was the very next day when he came to the house and asked him to get a kit for Kishan.

Kishan was selected for Bihar U-16 a couple of years later to play in the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) tournament. He was unable to play in any of the matches because of his short stature but became the captain of the U-16 cricket team of Bihar two years down the line.

Kishan has dedicated the inning against England to the father of his coach who passed away on 4th March. Ishan was very fond of his coach’s father and Majumdar recalled that they would bond over fish. The fondness of Majumdar’s father was last seen when the coach was sharing a video chat with Ishan after a splendid knock-in Vijay Hazare Trophy.
