Olivia DeJonge of ‘The Society’ Fame Cast as Priscilla Presley in Upcoming Elvis Presley Biopic

The much-awaited Baz Luhrmann biopic on Rock & Roll icon Elvis Presley has discovered its first lady.

Warner Bros. Pictures officially announced the leading lady for the biopic in a press statement on Friday. Actress Olivia DeJonge, the Australian actress who is one of the cast members of the Netflix mystery teen drama ‘The Society’ has been roped in the play the character of Priscilla Presley, Elvis’ wife in the biopic.

Priscilla Presley’s legacy as not just Elvis’ other half but a complete woman in her rights will be accurately portrayed by Olivia DeJonge in delivering the complexity of her real-life presence according to director Baz Luhrmann.

It has already been announced back in September that the role of the iconic King of Rock and Roll will be portrayed by actor Austin Butler.

Olivia is on cloud nine and gratefully humbled to be a part of one of the biggest upcoming biopics of all time and is thrilled to be a part of this cinematic and historic journey. In an interview with E! News representative Justin Sylvester, the actor also said that this opportunity is of a lifetime that is going to give her the best exploration experience as an actor.

The screenplay of the film has been co-written by the director himself along with Craig Pearce who is also one of the producers for the film. The movie goes on floors in the wee months of 2020 in Queensland, Australia.

Elvis Presley’s global influence as not just a music artist but also the most prominent sex symbol of the ’50s and ’60s is not unknown. He was married to former actress Priscilla, who is now 74 until 1973 before they separated. They married in 1967 in Las Vegas in a private ceremony. Lisa Marie Presley, their daughter was born shortly after in 1968. However, the marriage did not last long when they went their separate ways in 1972 before legally finalizing the divorce in ’73.

It was back in 1982 when Priscilla, who was still tied to her late husband’s estate, Graceland in Memphis opened the mansion to public touring. Till today, it remains one of the top tourist attractions in the country.

Elvis Presley tragically passed way in 1977 to a heart attack after years of extensive drug abuse. He was found dead on the bathroom floor of Graceland by his then-fiancée Ginger Alden.
