There is this thing about statistics. Sometimes metrics and numbers refuse to budge even after changes and hopes fail to alter the truth. This time, the scenario followed in the Grand Final hosted by Electronic Sports League or the ESL and Intel and the results are for better or for worst. The semi-finals of IEM for 2019 held in Beijing had 100 Thieves running for the title and the collective display and performance were very impressive given the organization are undergoing changes and growth hindrances as they are rebrand themselves. On the other hand, Astralis also delivered a spectacular performance without losing even one map in their range. In the end, Astralis was hailed as a favorite team with a score of 1.15/6.05 as the statistics produced by the Vegas were quite accurate.

Counter-Strike IEM Beijing-Haidian 2019 Grand Final Recap- 100 Thieves versus Astralis ended with Astralis walking away from the finals with a clean and clear 3-0 scope while, on the other hand, 100 Thieves had their share of struggles to stay afloat with their competitive demeanor just after the first map.

The team of 100 Thieves got the pick for the first map and went on to choose Vertigo. Vertigo is the newest added map in the pool of active-duty maps and has emerged as a favorite for various underdog teams that are swimming their way to the top by bringing down disappointed favorites. The first fifteen of them closed with scores very close to each other at 8-7 while Astralis stole the final round by shutting the 100 Thieves’ two map streak. The stars of the Astralis team ‘device’ and ‘gla1ve’ were efficient enough to pick up multiple triple frags just in one round with ‘gla1ve’ on roundabout flanks, a consistent surprise for the 100 Thieves team.

Stars from the 100 Thieves team ‘jks’ and ‘jkaem’ also put in their efforts in pulling triple frags taking their team to a heavy battle (14-14) of 28 rounds in the map around a defuse that was covered with smoke. Astralis was on the T side that picked two final rounds from the standard time without having the bomb that ended in the elimination of their enemy team while they waited for bomb plants. The end of the first map at 16-14 ended in Astralis’ favor and marked the final scope for the 100 Thieves in the Grand Final to display their efforts and competitiveness.

Astralis picked Nuke as their map which proved to be their new stomping ground. Nuke was a center of fear for the Astralis but gradually it was introduced by other teams who were looking to go against the Danish powerhouse because their performance had been historically weak in this map.

However, during the tournament, Astralis left no stone unturned to eradicate their weakness completely. Their tactics, strategies, placement, and positioning were amazing during the entire series closing the map without any contest at a beautiful 16-5. Magisk were the only ones who completed two separate triple frags and there was no one else who could commentate. This seemed like a one-sided fight with 100 Thieves gradually becoming frustrated with the little progress they were making.

For the final map, 100 Thieves got to pick again and this time, they went for Train. 100 Thieves were bold enough to manage up to 3 rounds in the whole map right before Astralis stole the title and the prize pool without losing even a single map.

After the end of the tournament, Astralis will walk away with pride and prestige with the new title that they can announce to the world that they are indeed the best and their levels will remain unperturbed
